Yuan Chen is a researcher with
the Sustainable IT Ecosystem Lab at HP Labs in Palo Alto, CA. Yuan joined
HP Labs in May 2005. His general research interests are in the
design, implementation and management of distributed and enterprise systems.
Yuan
received a B.S. from University of Science and Technology of China, a M.S. from
Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology,
all in computer science. He has published over 30 technical papers and
filed 3 patents.
Research
Yuan Chen has over 10 years research and development experience in distributed
systems, systems management, and middleware.
Yuan’s research at HP Labs has been in the area of automated management of large
scale, complex enterprise systems and services with a focus on SLA based
management. He has been a primary or key contributor to the projects of
Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
based management, Shared Service Platform, Scalable Management and Adaptive
Monitoring. He is currently working on the development of efficient approaches
for designing and managing IT systems/services in data centers. The goal is to
provide SLA guarantees while reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) and the
overall environmental impact (energy consumption, CO2 emissions, etc.) in
data centers.
Yuan's past work includes policy-based change management, adaptive enterprise monitoring, resource- and needs-aware
distributed systems and middleware, publish-subscribe systems, Internet storage
systems, parallel data
mining algorithms, and constraint programming.
