Director, Mobilty Solutions Group
Ajay Gupta is director of HP Labs India and of the lab's
mobilty solutions group, focusing on product and service
innovations that exploit rapid expansion of wireless infrastructure
in the emerging markets.
His research interests include telecommunications service
networks, business process monitoring, real-time collaboration,
information dynamics in complex social contexts and venture
creation.
Gupta joined Hewlett-Packard in 1986 at HP Labs, Bristol,
UK, where his work on machine learning techniques led to
a number of publications, patents, and product enhancements
for equipment diagnosis during manufacturing and support
processes.
Between 1989 and 1991, Gupta was part of the initial team
that set up HP's offshore software operation in Bangalore,
India. From 1991 to 1995, he led teams at HP Labs Bristol
working on electronic test systems and intelligent networks.
These teams developed a number of products that now form
HP's and Agilent’s telecom offerings.
Following his work in Bristol, Gupta was research and development
manager and system integration business manager at HP Telecom
Management Division focusing on HP's solution offerings for
telecom service providers globally. From 1998 to 2003, Gupta
was with HP's joint venture with Ericsson, Ericsson HP Telecom
EHPT, where as the head of its Indian subsidiary he built
its research and development and global offshore services
center.
Gupta earned his BS at IIT Kanpur, India, and his MS at the
University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He holds several granted
patents and has been published in numerous technical journals.
